Coffee table options

So the new console table in my family room, makes the dingy coffee table I've had since college stand out even more. I'm ready to move on and tired of looking at Chip's bite marks in it from his puppy stage.

If you forgot, here's what my family room looks like now:After lots of searching, these are my 5 top tables.

1. Mendocino Table from Wal-Mart – $99
I have been eying this series since I first started my blog. I love the simplicity of it, and I very much so love the price.

2. Sutton Coffee Table – $250ish (this table seems to be available everywhere, so if this table wins – then price researching begins) I love the clean lines and modern look to this table.

3. Leather and Glass Coffee Table – $170
I've never seen a table like this, and that's definitely part of its appeal to me.

4. Allison Coffee Table by Sitcom – $278
What isn't to love about this table? Well, aside from the price and the fact that the wood would need to be painted black.

5. Brad Coffee Table by TAG – $199.99
Once again, I love the simplicity of this type of table.

So, opinions? As you can tell, I haven't completely made up my mind on the black versus glass debate. I think I'm leaning more toward glass though.

  1. I like #1 or #5! I think they will be more durable.

  4. Ditto. #1 and 5 are so simple but they have a perfect touch of structure.

  5. #2...drawers are your friend for quick hiding spaces.

  6. I'm going to agree with #1 but I also love #4 for your space and I think the reason I do is because you have so many straight lines going on in this space already that I think a round glass table would be nice to break up some of those straight lines.I think you could find something round more in your price range if you look around.

  7. I totally agree with what Susan has said. #4 is my choice for the overall fact it will balance the room out. I have checked out the measurements of this table and it appears to be oval. I would highly recommend oval as oppose to round, as you will have more flexibility if ever you would like to change the room around. I love to make an overall room balanced by creating curved lines within it. Option #4 is my pick.

  8. I like #1 best, but do like the drawers on #2.

On another note, where did you get that chair in the picture on the left? I've been looking for one like that, & it looks super comfy!

  9. I have to vote for #2, I really like the drawers. Second I'd vote for #1.

  10. Well, I will be honest. I love your family room with your coffee table now. haha. But, if I was to pick. I love #2 but not the price. Have you thought about making one yourself and saving a ton of money?

  11. Definitely #1 or #4. The price on #1 almost seems almost too good to pass up, but I love the space of #4!

  12. I am going with option #4. Love the oval shape!

  13. Well, I love #1 for obvious reasons, plus it was a great buy for a nice and sturdy piece at $99.

That being said, I think the #4 oval would be a fabulous addition to your family room because of the softer lines. I'd probably go #4. ;)

  14. I think maybe a round shaped glass table would look better, to soften out the sharp lines of the sofa and chair.

  15. I love them all, but for practicality's sake, I'd go with #2. Reason a: the drawers are awesome. I love having drawers on our FR coffee table to throw crap into. Reason b: no glass top. While I love my coffee table, I do not love the glass top. It starts looking filthy, FAST. But, we eat at ours every night, so that is probably why. Our FR coffee table just gets a lot of traffic, when I replace it, I will go with a solid top. But if I wasnt being practical, I'd pick #1. PPH that style :)

  16. Wow! Thanks for all the comments. I am between 1, 2 and 4, which seems to be what everyone here is agreeing with.

Brent and I seem to be having very different opinions on which one the winner will be, so as of right now – who knows.

    Stephanie – I know! Wal-Mart got fancy. :)

Susan and Bianca – Totally agree with you on the curves. That's one of the reasons I love that table.

Kenna – Thanks! But I promise you, you wouldn't like it close it. Teeth marks galore.

Caity – Totally agree with you on the price. Amazing!

Jamie – Thanks! I got the chair off Craigslist, but they got it off Overstock.

  17. LOve your blog and really appreciate this post as I too need a new coffee table. I REALLY wanted one with some hidden storage options so for you I vote Sutton Table! Those drawers will keep all your remotes etc out of view which always keep the living room looking neat and tidy!
