I need a vacuum that sucks

Brent and I are asking for a vacuum from Brent's parents for Christmas. The issue is figuring out the vacuum.

I don't think I've spent so much time researching a product ever, and it's stressing me out. For every person who says they love a certain vacuum, there's someone else saying it's the worst vacuum ever. It's a rather confusing process.

The biggest requirement is finding one that does well with pet hair. And while I'd love to get a Dyson, it's just not realistic at this point.

Here's the "final" two:
- Bissell Lift-Off MultiCyclonic Pet Upright Vacuum
- Hoover WindTunnel Pet Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum

If you have either one of these vacuums, I'd love to get your feedback. Or, if you have another vacuum that you love (that's less than $200), I'd love your recommendations as well.

  1. Ok I know that you said that getting a dyson is not realistic right now...well it wasn't for me either, BUT I poured through reviews last year and decided that Dyson was the only way to go, especially with two dogs. Well Target ended up putting the pet hair one in their black friday ad, and we got ours for $299.00 I realize that is still over you budget, but I swear to you I would have saved for months and paid the full 600.00. That vacuum is seriously the best investment. Anyway my point was look in the black Friday ads. You will be getting a steal if you get it for 299!

  2. I have that Bissell and love it. With two dogs and a cat, I have a lot of hair/dirt going on. I vacuum twice a week and cannot believe all the stuff it gets up!! Amazing (and disgusting)! The only bad thing is the pet hair attachment stopped working after a few months. Hair clogged it up and the thing stopped spinning (even after we clean it out). I just use the regular brush attachment now and it works just fine.

  3. I have 6 cats(!) and my Bissell Cleanview is excellent at getting up all their hair. I'm sure the Pet Rewind would be great too, but I haven't tried that one.

  4. I know that Dyson's are expensive but trust me- totally worth it. I have the purple one (no idea which one that is) and I bought about 7 years ago - NEVER had a problem with it. And I have two very hairy dogs :) We just got tired of having to buy a new vacuum every few years and took the plunge. And they do go on sale - you might be surprised! Good luck :)

  6. I bought the Bussell Powerforce bagless and was pleasently suprised at how well it worked on our 3,500 sq feet of carpet. Its been three years and we still haven't had any issues. We paid a little over $40.

  7. Sorry - I just love my Dyson. It's so worth the money. The thing just sucks.up.everything. I have a long haired dog and a cat. Best investment ever.

  8. I have a long-haired Siamese, and recently bought a Riccar. Made in America and sold in local vacuum stores, not discount stores (keeps my money in my community). Same place I get my Pfaff sewing machine serviced. Though more expensive than your budget, it will last me for the next 20 years, along with being serviced at no cost for the first five years. My shop has reasonably priced bags, gave me a $50 credit on my old Eureka, and it will be recycled.

  9. The Hoover is a great one. I used it at my parents' home this weekend to help clean up before guests, and it worked like a dream. Their navy rug was entirely covered by yellow lab hair, and the Hoover made the rug look absolutely presentable again.
